Production Network Manager, Backbone Engineering

Meta's global network, comprised of cutting-edge platforms, is looking for a Network Engineering Manager to join the Backbone and Edge Engineering team focused on our Software Defined Express Backbone Network. This team is responsible for designing, implementing and supporting one of the world's largest and most cutting edge networks. In this role, you will work closely with other engineers with a wide variety of deep technical expertise in software, systems, IP, and Optical networking to drive forward innovation and expansion of our network., 2. Hold your own in technical discussions, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence
3. Help define and drive regular development of the technical roadmap to meet the needs of the team, and partner teams
4. Operate in a rapidly evolving environment, adapting quickly to new information and re-prioritizing as needed
5. Manage engineers working to design, build, scale, deploy, and support networks and systems for our Express Backbone network infrastructure
6. Partner closely with Meta backbone, edge, data center, and hardware network engineering teams and other software infrastructure teams
7. Manage and develop a team of engineers
8. Help engineers develop their careers, assigning them to projects tailored to their skill levels, long-term skill development, and career goals
9. Assess employee performance frequently, address under-performance, and recognize and promote excellent performance
10. Work closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, participating in conferences/events, and onboarding new employees
11. Communicate cross-functionally and drive engineering efforts

12. Experience managing a networking-related software engineering team
13. Knowledge of networking and distributed systems
14. Experience in network management systems for large-scale networks
15. Experience recruiting and managing technical teams, including performance management and managing engineers
16. Knowledge of networking fundamentals, 17. Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
18. Experience in software development and engineering for network control and management
19. Knowledge of network topology and capacity planning methodologies
20. 4+ years managing MPLS and RSVP-TE based networks
21. 6+ years experience in program management or product management
22. Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
23. Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
