At Sage, we help businesses flow by making accounting, finance, HR and payroll simpler and more connected. Sage's Domain Services organisation provides reusable platform capabilities that help Sage products respond to changing tax, compliance and regulatory obligations across multiple countries and markets. Our services power critical customer journeys across Sage's ecosystem and enable faster, more consistent delivery of regulatory change. As Product Manager for Digital and Real Time Tax Reporting, you will own a critical set of platform services that support real-time and near real-time tax reporting obligations. You will work at the intersection of tax regulation, customer needs and engineering delivery, translating evolving regulatory requirements into clear product direction, prioritised roadmaps and scalable services. This role is suited to an experienced Product Manager who is a proactive self-starter, comfortable operating in a highly matrixed organisation and able to navigate significant ambiguity. You will need to apply ruthless prioritisation, balancing regulatory deadlines, customer outcomes, colleague needs and long-term platform health. This is a hybrid role working 3 days a week in our Newcastle office. What you'll do
- Own the product strategy and roadmap for Digital Tax Reporting services, balancing mandatory regulatory commitments, customer outcomes, colleague needs and long-term platform health.
- Turn regulatory change into clear product direction by partnering with compliance knowledge teams, tax specialists and in-country experts.
- Define and ship reusable platform capabilities, APIs, services and shared components that internal product teams and third-party developers can confidently consume.
- Manage competing priorities across multiple countries and regulatory programmes, sequencing mandatory compliance dates without losing sight of platform quality and performance.
- Lead customer, colleague and product discovery activities using direct conversations, qualitative evidence, product data, market signals and regulatory input.
- Build alignment across a highly matrixed organisation, working closely with engineering, architecture, legal, tax specialists, in-country teams, go-to-market colleagues and consuming product teams.
- Communicate with clarity and influence, creating simple narratives for technical and non-technical audiences, from engineer-ready requirements to roadmap updates for senior leaders.
- Use AI as part of day-to-day product management practice to accelerate research, analysis, synthesis, prioritisation, discovery and communication, while personally validating material evidence and conclusions., A clear, shared roadmap is established for Digital Tax Reporting services, with priorities, dependencies, risks and decision points visible to leadership and consuming product teams.
- Regulatory change is translated into clear product choices, delivery plans and customer value.
- Internal product teams trust the platform roadmap and find the services well-documented, reliable, resilient and straightforward to integrate with.
- Mandatory compliance commitments are supported while improving platform quality, scalability and reusability.
- Product decisions are supported by customer insight, evidence, AI-assisted analysis and sound product judgement. Why this role matters Tax reporting obligations are becoming more digital, real-time and connected. By shaping scalable Digital Tax Reporting services, this role will help Sage products respond faster to regulatory change and help businesses operate with confidence as tax authority reporting evolves.
- Proven experience as a Product Manager delivering software products, platform capabilities, APIs or shared services.
- Strong understanding of product strategy, roadmap development, prioritisation and product discovery.
- Demonstrable ability to translate complex and evolving requirements into clear product outcomes and strategic direction.
- A proactive self-starter who takes ownership, drives outcomes independently and is comfortable operating with high levels of autonomy.
- Comfortable working within a highly matrixed organisation, building alignment across multiple teams and stakeholders without relying on direct authority.
- Demonstrable ability to operate effectively in environments with significant ambiguity, competing priorities and evolving requirements.
- Ability to apply ruthless prioritisation, balancing regulatory obligations, customer needs, business objectives and platform sustainability when making product decisions.
- Strong platform and technical fluency, with confidence reasoning about APIs, services, data flows, user stories and acceptance criteria.
- Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal, with the ability to distil complex information into clear requirements, decisions and narratives.
- Experience using AI tools to improve product management effectiveness, including customer research, insight generation, discovery, prioritisation, analysis and decision support. Desirable
- Experience working within tax, compliance, accounting or regulatory technology domains.
- Professional qualifications or background in tax, accounting, finance, audit, law or a related discipline.
- Experience with digital tax reporting, e-invoicing, continuous transaction controls, e-reporting or tax authority integrations.
- Hands-on familiarity with European tax compliance frameworks, VAT in the Digital Age, DAC or country-by-country digital tax and reporting reforms.
- Experience building developer-facing platforms or APIs consumed by internal product teams or external partners.
- Spanish, French and/or German language skills.
