Job Summary
GM Performance Power Unit (PPU) is seeking a Process Quality Engineer to ensure robust, repeatable, and defect-free manufacturing and assembly of Cadillac F1 Power Unit systems. This role provides quality ownership across in-house manufacturing (additive and CNC machining), sub-assembly, and final assembly operations, driving alignment between engineering intent, manufacturing capability, and product performance. The ideal candidate brings strong technical depth, hands-on problem solving, and experience applying APQP, SPC, MSA, and CAPA in high-performance manufacturing environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain process controls, inspection criteria, and quality standards for machining, additive manufacturing, and assembly.
- Develop and perform reaction plans for critical features utilizing SPC when applicable.
- Support builds through torque verification, leak testing, functional checks, and dimensional validation.
- Lead APQP deliverables (PFMEA, Control Plans, Process Flows) and ensure process readiness.
- Review and approve FAI/FAIR and CTQ (Critical to Quality) documentation.
- Drive resolution of nonconformances and process issues using structured root cause analysis (8D, DMAIC, 5-Why).
- Own and manage MRB, NCR/CAPA processes, ensuring effective closure and prevention of recurrence.
- Work with metrology in validation activities including CMM, 3D scanning, and GD&T verification.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives focused on defect reduction, yield improvement, and process capability.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Manufacturing, and Supplier Quality teams.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or related Engineering field.
- Experience in process or manufacturing quality.
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, APQP/PPAP, SPC, and MSA.
- Experience supporting machining and/or additive manufacturing processes.
- Proven experience in root cause analysis and CAPA systems.
- Ability to work hands-on in manufacturing and assembly environments.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in high-performance automotive, motorsport, or aerospace.
- Proficiency with statistical tools (Minitab, JMP).
- Familiarity with quality systems (High QA, Unipoint or equivalent).
- Lean Six Sigma certification.
Working Environment
- Hands-on role within manufacturing and assembly areas, including additive and machining operations.
- Exposure to high-performance mechanical systems and test environments.
- Occasional travel to suppliers and partner facilities.
