Full Job Description

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Private Sector Housing team where you will be able to excel and develop your career within a fast pace team environment, working together to deliver a high quality, responsive housing service managing the demands and expectations of our customers.
Due to the specialist nature of this role, it is essential that you already trained as competent in and have direct experience of using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) to identify property conditions and risks and have working knowledge of relevant legislation covering private sector tenancies, including the new Renters Rights Act. Where improvements are required, you will ensure that that works are carried out to the required standards within agreed timescales.
The successful post holder will work in an agile environment providing support to the Bridlington office tackling non-compliant landlords and improving housing standards.
We are looking for an individual educated to degree level or equivalent in a subject relevant to the post with significant direct experience of working in a local authority regulatory officer role. You must be experienced in carrying out complex investigations and inspections, undertaking PACE interviews, taking witness statements, writing reports, serving notices as well as have direct experience or being trained in the giving of evidence in Court. A qualification relevant to the work of the Private Sector Housing team would be advantageous as would examples of joint work with external partners.
You will also provide a pivotal point of contact for local landlords and local residents. You should have plenty of creative solutions and be motivated by the challenges we face. The successful candidate will be expected to assist in delivering training and working with the Principal Officer (Private Sector Housing) to lead on projects with the ability to prioritise work to ensure deadlines are met. You will be self-sufficient and require minimal supervision to complete tasks and manage your own workload.
You should be a team player, keen to learn and develop skills further building on the already gained practical knowledge of housing and private sector housing legislation, with a good understanding of how the service impacts on safeguarding and public safety issues. Excellent ICT/communication skills and the ability to deal with confrontational situations are essential to manage and deal with challenging situations with ease.
The post will be based in Bridlington as the main location; however, the Council operates a blended approach of working which involves working from the office, in the community, or occasionally from home. There will be travelling required to all areas in the East Riding of Yorkshire and therefore a valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is required.
