Full Job Description
The Private Sector Housing Team undertakes mandatory functions to ensure housing standards within Ashford remain safe for all its residents. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in promoting and protecting public health by improving housing conditions across the private rented sector. You will investigate housing complaints, carry out inspections, and work with landlords, tenants and partners to raise standards and deliver better health outcomes. The role is varied and includes enforcement work, administering housing grants and loans, supporting energy efficiency initiatives, and helping bring empty properties back into use., Ashford is a vibrant and growing borough, and we are committed to maintaining safe, high-quality housing for all our residents. You will be joining a supportive and forward-thinking team that values collaboration, professional development, and delivering meaningful outcomes for the community.
Ideally, you will have a background in a relevant housing discipline and a good understanding of private sector housing functions. You will also hold a Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS) qualification (or be willing to work towards this) along with having:
- An appreciation of Housing hazards
- A sound understanding of housing hazards and construction defects
- Confidence in investigating cases and making evidence-based decisions
- The ability to be able to manage a varied caseload and complex situations
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Enjoy working both independently and as part of a small, friendly team We are looking for someone who enjoys investigating, carrying out enforcement of housing legislation and working collaboratively as part of a small but friendly team to achieve positive outcomes for residents. The role involves site visits, including inspecting properties in varied and sometimes challenging conditions. Full driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required. Consideration with also be given to applications interested in flexible or condensed working conditions.
