Full Job Description
We are seeking a Principal Structural Engineer to join our Building Structures team in Birmingham. This is a senior role where you will take the lead on the design, delivery and management of structural engineering projects, working closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
You will play a key role in shaping projects from concept through to completion, providing technical leadership, overseeing design delivery, and supporting the growth and development of the team., Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering solutions across a range of building projects
Act as Project Lead, managing resources, programme, budget and client relationships
Produce and review design calculations, reports, specifications and drawings
Oversee structural designs in steel, concrete, timber and masonry
Ensure compliance with relevant codes, standards and best practice
Coordinate with architects, MEP engineers and other disciplines within a BIM environment
Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineers and technicians
Mentor and support junior staff, contributing to their professional development
Attend and lead client and design team meetings
Contribute to business development, including bid submissions and client engagement
Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Significant experience in structural design within a consultancy environment (buildings-focused)
Proven track record of leading projects and managing teams
Strong technical expertise across a range of structural materials
Excellent communication and client-facing skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver to deadlines
Chartered Engineer (CEng) status (e.g. via IStructE or ICE)
Experience working within a multidisciplinary consultancy
Familiarity with BIM processes and collaborative design environments
Interest or experience in sustainable and low-carbon design
