Are you an experienced actuarial or financial modelling professional with a passion for leadership and insight-driven decision-making? We're looking for a dynamic individual to assist in the leadership of the modelling area for our Pensions Insights and Modelling (PIM) team. This is a role for someone who thrives on both technical excellence and leadership. You will:
- provide expert actuarial and financial modelling advice to support regulatory objectives
- manage and develop a team of actuarial modellers within the Pension Insights and Modelling team
- lead the governance, design, maintenance, and operation of actuarial and financial models
- ensure all models meet government analytical and professional actuarial standards
- deliver high-quality, timely modelling outputs and analysis to support decision making across the organisation
- communicate complex modelling insights clearly to internal and external stakeholders
- contribute to the development of policy and regulatory positions through modelling and pension insights, As a Principal Modeller, you will:
- lead and manage a team of skilled modellers, providing mentoring, support, and regular performance feedback
- oversee the day-to-day operations of the team, including work allocation, prioritisation, and cross-team collaboration
- ensure all modelling outputs meet professional standards and are robust, accurate, and fit for purpose
- take ownership of the modelling process, from data governance and assumption setting to model development and quality assurance
- deliver outputs that inform key decisions across TPR, including policy development, and regulatory interventions
- collaborate with data and digital teams to ensure our modelling and data infrastructure remains modern, efficient, and reliable
- provide expert advice on model risk, data limitations, and actuarial methodologies, and propose solutions to mitigate these risks
- support the Head of PIM and Lead Actuaries with strategic planning, budgeting, recruitment, and learning and development initiatives
- represent the PIM team in external engagements with government partners, industry bodies, and academic institutions
- drive knowledge sharing and training across the team, helping to build internal capability and maintain high professional standards
Actuarial Expertise: Member of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA) with significant pensions and modelling experience, and an in-depth knowledge of the actuarial responsibilities and standards associated with the modelling of pension schemes and other financial markets. - Consulting & Leadership: Experience in a consulting environment, managing and training teams and delivering high-quality actuarial advice.
- Technical Knowledge: Deep understanding of UK pensions, financial markets, actuarial modelling (DB & DC), and relevant legislation.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal skills; able to explain complex topics clearly.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving ability, especially in model development and risk analysis.
- Collaboration: Proven ability to work across disciplines (eg legal, investment, data).
- IT Skills: Advanced Excel (including VBA); quick to learn new software., Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries.
- Training & Representation: Experience presenting and representing organisations externally.
- Policy & Innovation: Contributing to policy development and creating models for new legislation.
