Salary & Additional Benefits: Principal Commercial Performance, Insights & Reporting Manager Package: 63,270 to 85k (depending on experience)


Location & Working Pattern: Reading, with free onsite parking. AWE operates a 9-day working fortnight, with every other Friday as a non-working day. This role is eligible for hybrid working, typically involving three days on site during a long week and two days in a short week. Flexible working options including part-time and varied hours are supported.


About the Role


The Principal Commercial Performance, Insights & Reporting Manager is accountable for leading the development and delivery of strategic commercial insights that drive value, performance, and decision-making across Commercial. The role oversees the implementation of performance measurement, key performance indicators, and analytics to improve commercial outcomes. Providing actionable insights across all aspects of Commercial functional and team performance, underpinned by accurate data, is critical for reporting and supporting effective commercial delivery aligned with the AWE mission. The role reports to the Head of Commercial Insights, Process and Systems.


Key Accountabilities



  • Define and execute the Commercial performance, insights, and reporting strategy aligned with the Commercial functional strategy.

  • Manage and foster relationships with external governing bodies (MOD, DNO, CAB), providing visibility and influencing change while identifying collaboration opportunities in insights and reporting.

  • Lead the team in building and maintaining a fit-for-purpose commercial performance reporting catalogue.

  • Coordinate with Commercial delivery teams and Governance & Assurance teams for reporting of the forward plan and pipeline.

  • Provide Commercial insight-led spend data analytics and reporting.

  • Ensure data integrity within Commercial data.

  • Provide commercial insight to inform strategy and decision-making within the Commercial function.


Candidate Profile


Experience in some of the following areas is desirable, not mandatory:



  • Compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.

  • Proven professional experience in a procurement or commercial role.

  • Leading teams of data insights and reporting specialists.

  • Designing and managing commercial performance frameworks.

  • Understanding of commercial governance, audit requirements, and executive reporting.

  • Commercial acumen with advanced data analysis and storytelling skills.

  • Deep understanding of commercial performance levers.

  • Analytical mindset capable of aligning business priorities with commercial outcomes.

  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing skills.

  • Comfortable with ambiguity and changing priorities.

  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
