Full Job Description
Responsible for the systematic and autonomous provision of highly specialist clinical psychology services for the specialist cancer services based at Queen Victoria Hospital. This includes being responsible for a patient assessment service, provision of psychological formulation/self-management recommendations, and appropriate interventions to those with psychological difficulties and contributing to the development and implementation of individual and programme-based services for patients. To work autonomously within professional guidelines as well as within the framework of the Trusts' policies and procedures as appropriate to provide specialist psychological consultation, supervision, and training to a range of health professionals and students.
To utilise research skills for audit, policy, and service development and research within the service, as required. To act as clinical supervisor to newly qualified, Assistant and Trainee Clinical Psychologists as appropriate. To offer and provide advice and consultation to other colleagues and non-professional carers within the specialist Cancer service.
Main duties of the job
Responsible for:
a) Co-ordinating specialist service for cancer including managing patient workload and providing psychology input to the wider clinical team.
b) To provide consultation and clinical supervision/support to Specialist Cancer Care staff in relation to the psychosocial care of their patients. These activities may be provided in a variety of formats.
c) Provision of specialist psychological assessments of clients referred to the service based upon the appropriate use, interpretation and integration of complex data from a variety of sources including psychological tests, self-report measures, rating scales, direct and indirect structured observations and semi-structured interviews with clients, family members and others involved in the client's care.
d) Formulating and implementing plans for the formal psychological treatment and/or management of a client's mental health problems, based upon an appropriate conceptual framework of the client's problems, and employing methods based upon evidence of efficacy and / or effectiveness.
e) Implementing a range of psychological interventions for individuals, adjusting and refining psychological formulations as required.
f) Evaluating and making decisions about treatment options taking into account both theoretical and therapeutic models and highly complex factors concerning historical and developmental processes that have shaped the individual, family or group.
