Primary Design Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Senior Primary Design Engineer to lead and deliver high-quality primary engineering designs for HV substations and power infrastructure projects. Working for the specialist power engineering arm of a FTSE 250 company, you will play a key role in technical delivery, mentoring junior engineers, and working closely with project managers, clients, and multidisciplinary teams. This role is available on a hybrid or remote basis, offering flexibility while remaining closely connected to project teams and clients., Lead the design and development of primary engineering solutions for HV substations and associated infrastructureProduce and review primary design deliverables including layouts, GA drawings, equipment specifications, and technical reportsEnsure designs comply with relevant standards, client specifications, and safety requirementsProvide technical guidance, checking, and mentoring to junior engineersInterface with clients, contractors, and internal stakeholders throughout the project lifecycleSupport project planning, cost estimates, and risk assessmentContribute to continuous improvement of design processes and standards

Degree-qualified in Electrical Engineering or a related disciplineSignificant experience in primary design within HV substations (e.g. 33kV-400kV)Strong knowledge of UK / international standards and utility requirementsProven ability to lead design tasks and review the work of othersExcellent communication and stakeholder management skillsChartered or working towards Chartered Engineer status (desirable)
