Full Job Description

East-the-Water Primary is looking for a strong, adaptable teacher to join our team as a Cover Teacher from September 2026. This post is fixed term, dependent upon Reception class numbers - nationally falling roll. The post is available for 3 or 5 days per week. This is an important teaching role in the school. We want someone who will be known by children, trusted by colleagues, included in professional development and fully involved in school life. We believe children deserve calm, purposeful and well-taught lessons every day. The person in this role will help provide consistency across the school, support release time, step into classes when needed and make a real contribution to children's learning. We are a maintained school with a clear sense of direction and the freedom to act on it. We make thoughtful decisions about curriculum, training and school improvement, work with carefully chosen national experts and lead initial teacher training. Decisions are made close to the classroom, by people who know the children and understand the work. Our leadership team and specialists are in the building, so support is practical, immediate and rooted in real classrooms. This role would suit someone who enjoys variety, builds relationships quickly and brings confidence, warmth and structure into different classrooms. It may appeal to an experienced teacher looking for a different kind of role, or someone who wants to remain fully involved in excellent teaching without holding one class full-time.

  • A strong classroom practitioner.
  • Calm, flexible and well organised.
  • Able to build relationships quickly.
  • Positive, reliable and team-focused.
  • Committed to high expectations and inclusive practice.
  • Keen to keep developing professionally.
  • Willing to play a full part in school life.
  • We would be delighted to show you around. A visit will give you the clearest sense of who we are: ambitious, warm, practical and serious about doing the best for children. We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and vulnerable adults, and expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This role requires a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. This role requires the ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence and fluency in English. Online searches may be done as part of pre-recruitment checks.
