Full Job Description
As a Prevention, Tenancy and Support Officer at Somerset Council, you'll play a key role in helping people maintain safe and secure housing. Working with individuals and families who may be facing housing difficulties or are at risk of homelessness, you'll provide practical support, advice and intervention to help prevent crises and improve long-term outcomes. This is a rewarding and varied role where you'll work collaboratively with residents, landlords and partner organisations to identify challenges, develop solutions and support people to remain in their homes wherever possible. Where this is not achievable, you'll help residents access suitable alternative accommodation and support them through a planned and sustainable transition. How You'll Make a Difference
- Provide early intervention and prevention-focused support to individuals and families at risk of homelessness.
- Assess housing needs and identify practical solutions that promote stable and sustainable housing outcomes.
- Develop and deliver tailored support plans that help residents achieve greater independence and wellbeing.
- Work closely with landlords, support providers and partner agencies to coordinate effective interventions.
- Manage a diverse caseload, ensuring support is delivered in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records and case management information.
- Build positive relationships with residents and partner organisations to achieve successful outcomes.
- Help reduce homelessness and contribute to stronger, more resilient communities across Somerset., This role can be based at any Somerset Council office location, with hybrid working arrangements available in line with service requirements.
Knowledge and understanding of housing issues and the factors that can place people at risk of homelessness. - Experience of supporting individuals in vulnerable or complex circumstances.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and maintain professional relationships.
- Experience of working collaboratively with a range of partners and stakeholders.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and maintain a high standard of record keeping.
- Sound judgement and resilience when dealing with sensitive or challenging situations.
- A proactive, solution-focused approach with a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for residents.
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, as the role includes regular travel and home visits across Somerset.
