Full Job Description
The Preterm Birth and Multiple Birth Lead Midwife is a specialist role focused on improving outcomes for women, birthing people and babies at risk of preterm birth or multiple pregnancy. Based at HUTH or NLAG, the role requires pan-group working across the Humber Health Partnership.
The postholder provides expert, evidence-based care and leads dedicated clinics, ensuring compliance with NICE NG137. They support management of preterm birth (before 37+0 weeks), a major cause of neonatal mortality and morbidity, and contribute to reducing its significant health and financial impact.
The role is key to delivering Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v3.2 (Element 5) and implementing the BAPM Perinatal Optimisation Pathway.
Working with a multidisciplinary team, the Lead Midwife ensures consistent care pathways and collaborates with public health and MNVP to co-design equitable, culturally appropriate services.
They also contribute to governance, service development, and national maternity transformation, promoting continuity, personalisation, equity, and excellence in care across the Humber Health Partnership., The Preterm Birth and Multiple Birth Lead Midwife provides specialist, evidence-based care for women, birthing people and babies at increased risk of preterm birth or multiple pregnancy. The role leads and coordinates dedicated clinics, ensuring safe, personalised and continuity-focused care across the Humber Health Partnership.
The postholder provides clinical leadership for multiple pregnancy care in line with NICE NG137 and supports delivery of Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle v3.2 (Element 5), including implementation of the BAPM Perinatal Optimisation Pathway to improve outcomes for preterm babies.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, the Lead Midwife ensures consistent pathways of care and collaborates with public health teams and the MNVP to co-design equitable, culturally sensitive and accessible services.
The role also supports clinical governance, audit, service development and quality improvement, contributing to national maternity transformation priorities. The postholder provides education and expert guidance to staff, promoting best practice in preterm birth prevention and management.
A strong focus on equity, inclusion and personalised care underpins the role. The postholder acts as a visible leader, driving consistency, innovation and improved outcomes for families at risk of preterm birth or multiple pregnancy.
