PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £29,000 - £35,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights. Flexible working will be part of the discussion at offer stage. PURPOSE OF THE ROLE BBC Children in Need believes that every child should have the chance to thrive and be the best they can be. This role will sit at the heart of delivering Press and Communications campaigns throughout the year that raise awareness of the charity's work. Whether that's during our fundraising appeal season or across the rest of the year sharing the impact of our work and where the money goes. WHY JOIN THE TEAM This is an opportunity to lead on your own projects. The Senior Press & Communications Officer is responsible for delivering PR campaigns in support of our fundraising initiatives, our partnerships and our impact led initiatives, as well delivering internal communications for colleagues across the charity and wider BBC. You will be given a large amount of autonomy whilst working alongside a small team of colleagues with expertise in PR, communications and celebrity liaison. In addition you'll work alongside a wide range of teams across the charity, and the wider BBC, who are united in their desire to help children and young people. YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications strategy that drives engagement and clarity across the organisation on a year round basis
  • Devise and implement strategic media and PR campaigns to raise BBC Children in Need's profile and drive public engagement
  • Collaborate across BBC Children in Need and the wider BBC to support PR activities tied to Appeal programming and partnership campaigns
  • Lead the team in identifying media opportunities, aligning with the daily news agenda and spotlighting the challenges faced by children and young people
  • Develop insight-led PR initiatives and contribute to reputation-building efforts within the charity and funding sectors
  • Manage press materials and media relations with precision, while supporting the PR & Comms Lead in proactive and reactive press activity, including reputational risk management
  • Plan and deliver press events such as photoshoots, visits, and launches, and deputise for the PR & Comms Lead when required

    Experience of successfully developing and delivering both internal and external communication strategies
  • Experience of delivering and supporting on corporate communications, with a particular focus on internal communications
  • Good journalist contacts across the national, consumer and trade media
  • A proactive self-starter with an ability to generate high quality, creative ideas
  • Strong crisis communication experience
