Full Job Description

To undertake a 2 year training course for student pharmacy technicians. To undertake, under supervision work based assessment in accordance with the course. To participate in all aspects of pharmaceutical work relevant to training in accordance with the safe systems of work and procedure prevailing within the department at the time. To use the pharmacy computer system in accordance with the level of training. To communicate professionally with other healthcare staff. To carry out procedures in accordance with current legislation. To provide, under supervision, a stock distribution service to wards and departments within the Trust. To assist the ward pharmacist and technician in updating and revising ward stocks and stock lists, as and when required. To participate, under direction, in the ordering and receiving of drugs via the pharmacy computer system on a daily basis and to deal with any queries which may arise. To process and file any paperwork pertaining to the ordering, receiving
and supply of medicines. To monitor pharmacy stock expiry dates, utilising stock rotation and stock relocation to minimise quantities of stock expiring and therefore assisting in the provision of a cost-effective service. To provide, under supervision, a supply of pre-packed medicines for ward and departmental use. To assist the pharmacist in the dispensing and supply of medicines, in accordance with individual levels of experience, and following previously laid down guidelines and procedures. To be able to effectively use the computer system and be aware of patient confidentiality and the Data Protection Act. To assist in the provision and development of an effective out of hours storeroom. Maintain a neat and tidy working area within the dispensary. To comply with requirements of legislation governing safe systems of work e.g. COSHH and Health and Safety at Work Act. To comply with standards of work laid down in department procedure documents.
