Pre-Assessment Nurse

We are looking for an experienced and motivated Pre-Assessment Nurse to join our specialist elective surgical team. The successful candidate will provide high-quality pre-operative assessment and preparation for patients undergoing elective orthopaedic and spinal procedures. Working closely with the Clinical Lead Pre-Assessment, surgeons, anaesthetic teams, nursing colleagues and the wider multidisciplinary team, you will support safe patient selection, optimisation and preparation before surgery. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a new specialist surgical service and contribute to developing excellent standards of pre-operative care.Main duties of the job The successful candidate will:

• Undertake comprehensive pre-operative assessments for patients undergoing elective surgery.
• Review medical history, medications, allergies and previous anaesthetic history.
• Identify potential risks and escalate concerns appropriately.
• Support patient optimisation before surgery.
• Ensure appropriate investigations are completed, including:
• Blood tests.
• ECGs.
• Screening investigations where required.
Complete pre-operative documentation accurately and efficiently. Provide patients with information and education regarding their surgical pathway. Support patients undergoing:
• Total hip replacement.
• Total knee replacement.
• Revision arthroplasty where clinically appropriate.
• Spinal procedures including ACDF, decompression and fusion surgery.
Complete relevant risk assessments including:
• VTE assessment.
• Falls risk assessment.
• Infection risk assessment.
Promote patient safety and ensure readiness for admission and surgery. Participate in clinical audits and quality improvement activities.
