Full Job Description
The post allows for the opportunity to join teams that value the contribution that psychology brings to their work. The Psychologists who work across our service value the variety that working within Psycho-oncology can bring and enjoy using a broad range of knowledge and skills to provide therapy for those presenting with mental health difficulties related to their cancer situation and care.
The post is line managed through a robust Psychology structure and offers great opportunities to develop a specialist area of Psychological expertise whilst working therapeutically, such as individual therapy, group work and supervision skills.
This post will predominately involve direct clinical work with patients via face-to-face, telephone and possible home visits or community visits such as care homes and Hospices. Within this role you will receive supervision and support from the Psychology Service Lead. Alongside this, the role involves supervising the Assistant Psychologists as well as supporting Head of Department and other senior staff in their work where needed, e.g. with Audits, annual report preparations, compiling data and presenting audit/research results.
Fundamentally, the post-holder will be expected to demonstrate compassion and empathy by supporting individuals / family come to terms with receiving a diagnosis of Cancer or a Palliative prognosis. The candidate will be expected to be a good communicator and demonstrate positive leadership skills.
We are looking for a Practitioner Psychologist/High Intensity Therapist (Band 7) who is creative, motivated and passionate about the role that Psychology can have within Psycho-oncology services across the University Hospital of Hartlepool and North Tees. The .5 post is offered at a band 7 with the potential for progression from band 7 to 8a through a competency-based gateway (preceptorship) .
