Full Job Description

We are looking to appoint a permanent Senior Practitioner Educational Psychologist on either a part time or job share basis, enabling you to balance this role with your personal commitments and / or consultancy-based work. This is an exciting time in Solihull, as we are developing a variety of operational areas and expanding our support for less experienced EPs, trainees and assistants. Solihull Community Educational Psychology Service (CEPS), part of the integrated SEND Operations Service, is a friendly and highly supportive service where collaboration and peer supervision are truly valued. This role presents the ideal opportunity for an experienced EP who is ready to take on their next challenge and enjoys nurturing others and supporting their professional development. Our role as EPs in Solihull takes us into exciting, applied psychology territory with schools, families and the wider community. Recent examples include our work in social inclusion with Specialist Inclusion Support, a new ELSA programme, parent development workshops and our Trauma Informed project with the Virtual School. For this role, you will have proven skills in the field, with significant successful experience of supervising staff, particularly those in the early stages of their career. Responsibilities also include supporting the leadership team with systemic opportunities that arise in the borough. In return we offer an attractive salary, the opportunity to supervise or mentor less experienced staff and a chance to lead on a workstream or area of research. Not only is Children's Services our top priority in our Council Plan, but here in Solihull you can be part of a team of professionals who value the transformative power of psychology, applied research and professional practice that promotes creativity. We are proud of our strong links with colleagues across the local authority, schools and health, and joint work with our colleagues has enabled us to address some of the challenges faced by our children, young people and their families. In Solihull, you will be given the autonomy and dedicated time to undertake project work to develop your expertise in your own area of professional interest within applied psychology, such as developing training or undertaking new commissions with other local agencies. We will balance your needs with the needs of our service, enabling you to work flexibly from home, or in modern shared office spaces. You will also be provided with a laptop and mobile phone, to strengthen our culture of accessibility and support. We recognise the need to maintain our strong and supportive team relationships in an increasingly agile working environment by promoting regular quality supervision and shared team learning through regular team meetings and social events for those who wish to get involved.

For this role, you will need an Honours degree in Psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the British Psychological Society, recognised postgraduate training and a qualification in Educational Psychology. You must also be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and have been awarded three SPAs (or the equivalent in private practice)., This post will require a DBS check. This role carries essential car user status. Applicants must be able to drive, have a driving licence and be a car owner, however for disabled applicants, reasonable adjustments will be made where required. An online search will be carried out for all shortlisted candidates. This appointment is also subject to a pre-employment medical check. This post is covered by the Fluency Duty, as outlined in the Code of Practice on the English language requirements for public sector workers.

With our market forces payments, we are able to offer extremely competitive rates of pay, in addition to a wide range of exciting workstreams and employee benefits including:

  • Generous annual leave (33 days)
  • Numerous flexible working options
  • Payment of HCPC registration
  • The opportunity to buy additional leave
  • Access to our Employee Assistance Programme, the local government pension scheme and much more.
