Full Job Description
We are looking for a Practice Development Lead that will lead our approach to the use of Positive Behaviour Support and autistic specialist supports for our services in Devon where we are supporting people who have a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Condition, associated complex needs and behaviours which may be challenging to others. The role is critical to Achieve Together's plans to develop these services to support teams to develop a greater understanding of how and why people may use behaviour, and to think about how by working with people we can plan for supports that reduce the likelihood and impact of this in their lives. - Providing leadership and support to our programme of practice development focusing on improving understanding and competencies of practice/shift leads in evidence-based practice interventions, including active support and PBS.
- Facilitating the learning for coach practitioners, creating an internal practice network with ties to external professionals.
- Identifying and developing an evidence-based practice model, focused on supporting people to develop an improved Quality of life, to support the development of an organisational framework for understanding and supporting autistic people.
- Undertaking functional assessments of behaviour and the development of PBS plans.
- Supporting managers with an analysis of behavioural data.
- Supporting managers to develop their confidence and competence in analysing behavioural data.
- Working as part of a local senior leadership team offering oversight and governance to the local teams.
- Escalating issues as required to operational and Community Hubleads.
- Acting as a primary contact point for the area Achieve Together's PBS team, agreeing additional supports and sharing any learning.
- Ensuring that PBS plans are in place for individuals across the area, focusing on the positive outcomes for people being supported, the interventions that are in place, and any restrictive practices deployed to assure the person and their team's safety.
- Providing oversight of PBS practice, using agreed tools to assure the competency of teams.
- Ensuring that local practices and processes are updated to reflect external changes in regulation and best practice guidance.
- Identifying risks that prevent the delivery of safe care and to work with managers to put in place risk mitigation processes to ensure that safety of the people we support and their teams.
- Liaising with the local authority and health teams to develop working relationships and sustain the inclusion of external partners in a local practice network.
Extensive experience working with people with learning disabilities and/or autism who may use behaviours that can challenge. - Proven track record of experience of working with people with Autism and learning disabilities and to have qualifications in both PBS and Autism.
- Proven track record of team leadership and associated skills.
- Experience conducting behavioural assessments and developing, implementing and evaluating interventions for individuals presenting with behaviour that can challenge.
- History of reducing the use of restrictive practices and familiarity with the Restraint Reduction Network.
- Experience of developing and/or delivering organisation wide positive behaviour support strategies and frameworks.
- Knowledge of the transforming care agenda and commitments made as part of the Homes not Hospitals programme of works.
- Knowledge of STOMP and its application in the lives of people with learning disabilities and/or autism.
- Understanding of the CQC Single assessment Framework.
- Experience of working in a social care setting regulated under the Health and Social care Act 2008.
- Experience of delivering service improvement.
- Experience of leading training and/or workshops to improve team competencies. Qualified to a degree level.
- Positive Behavioural Support qualification (level 5 or above).
- Qualified to degree level in Autism or with a post graduate Diploma/ Masters in Autism studies.
- Willingness to travel to services in the area to undertake assessments and reviews.
