Full Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen to lead the Lifecycle Engineering strategy of Rolls Royce Naval products as a Powerplant Engineer - Naval Gas Turbines. This role will provide world-class technical support for in-service/delivered products and influence maturity throughout the product life cycle to meet customer and business needs, ensuring Design Intent is met. This role helps to ensure the safe, reliable and cost-effective product attributes are defined and maintained by means of through life modelling of product reliability, deterioration mechanisms, costs and help implement robust & cost-effective solutions. What you will be doing
- Work with the Naval Lifecycle engineering team to provide technical support to help resolve technical queries and operational arisings including but not limited to management of known and potential safety issues (SAR & RT) and appropriate involvement in safety boards as defined in Safety Management Plan.
- Predict future safety and reliability performance based on failure rates, adopting statistical techniques to support Numerical Risk Assessment, Parametric Distribution and fly forward analysis. Set and monitor reliability targets based on all available data- work with the customer to gain additional data as needed.
- Manage any issues that affect the Maturity, Lifecycle Cost, Reliability and Maintainability and maintain Design Intent. Identify and lead cost reduction opportunities by reviewing and maintaining Lifecycle Engineering policies and any associated maintenance planning documentation. Support the generation of the Service Operation Validation Strategy.
- Prepare and deliver technical communications (e.g. presentation and/or reports) to platform provider, regulators, customers, internal stakeholder.
- Identify requirements for new Health Monitoring System or capability and Lead and integrate Health Monitoring system requirements.
- Ensure compliance with requirements specified by regulatory authorities and to adhere to technical and business requirements of internal & external stakeholders. Where delegated, act as the Technical Authority providing assurance on build, commissioning and maintenance activities.
- Gather in-service data and carry out continuous improvement by identifying Best Practice and Learning from Experience activities, feeding back into Naval Lifecycle and product design teams.
Engineering or Numerical degree (or equivalent with experience) - Knowledge of components/ systems functionality and numerical methods
- Experience of working on complex tasks that are novel and ambiguous
- Familiarity of the in-service operation environment, including regulatory and compliance requirements
- Experience in troubleshooting and/or problem resolution
- Experience in support/lead cross-functional teams e.g. specialists, suppliers, customers, partners
- Have proven ability to exercise engineering judgement to identify reliability issues and trends, root cause and develop costed solutions
- Be commercially astute, demonstrating a knowledge of Naval contract constructs and opportunities for improvement
