National Grid is hiring a number of Power System Engineers from Associate to Senior/Lead - This position is based from our Warwick office however we offer flexible hybrid working options. What You'll Do You'll be involved in new technologies (i.e. HVDC and FACTS) discussions and specifications including innovation projects related to renewables and new technologies. To do this, you'll be involved in a range of power system modelling and system studies such as load flow, fault level, harmonic analysis, EMT analysis and/or control interaction studies to ensure compliance with relevant standards. You'll maintain the integrity and safety of the network for all infrastructure and connection developments in the fields of power system design.,

  • Knowledge of outage planning, the impact on security of supply and consumer costs.
  • Lead on system access activities to plan network outages.
  • Knowledge of the economics of power system operation.
  • Strategic Network Planning:
  • Lead on strategic network planning activities to assess the system capability and develop solutions to meet net zero.
  • Experience building strong internal and external stakeholder relationships.
  • Detailed Network Design:
  • Lead on detailed development of the technical requirements of projects to integrate with the existing network.
  • Ensuring the power system analysis requirements of projects are maintained, documented, and explained across key stakeholders.
  • Experience of building strong working relationships in technical areas.
  • Good understanding on the application of power electronics-based devices in power systems (i.e. HVDC, FACTS, wind farm etc)
  • Network Transformation:
  • Programming skills in DPL or Python
  • Proficiency with Data Analytics using tools such as Power Apps or Power BI

    Across all the teams, you'll demonstrate good knowledge of power system fundamentals and good knowledge of power system studies. You will have a bachelor's degree, master's degree or PhD in power system engineering or a related field.
  • What You'll Need Experience in one or more of the following Connections
  • Knowledge of NETSSQS
  • Understanding of the RIIO price control process, the allowances that apply to the work Customer Connections carries out and how these can be out-performed.
  • Awareness of the LOTI and the Development Consent Order processes as they apply to major transmission system reinforcements
  • Power Quality and Dynamic Performance:
  • Strong skills in utilising RMS or EMT simulation tools (preferably DIgSILENT PowerFactory or PSCAD)
  • Good understanding on the application of power electronics-based devices in power systems (i.e. HVDC, FACTS, wind farm)
  • AC/DC network design
  • Data and Modelling:
  • Lead on providing business expertise for model technical support and the algorithms, scheme modelling, data assurance and measurement of model quality, script management and information flows.
  • Experience of Customer engagement / Power Industry / Consultancy would be advantageous., Experience of power systems, power system analysis and modelling.
  • Experience in Power Factor/ OLTA study analysis to identify network compliance issues
  • Critical thinking and complex problem solving in power system analysis and design including innovative network solutions.
  • Knowledge of the relevant parts of industry codes and standards including SQSS, CUSC, Grid Code.
  • Knowledge and understanding of power system theory, and its practical application to electricity networks
  • Ability to contribute effectively to clear scopes of technical work that lead to clearly defined strategic & business outcomes

    A competitive salary between £47,000 - £72,000 dependent on capability and level As well as your base salary, you will receive
  • 26 days holiday, plus eight statutory days, an option to buy extra holiday days, and the option to holiday swap up to 3 bank holiday days
