Full Job Description
Postdoctoral Scientist - Structural Studies - Dr Sjors Scheres - LMB 2640
MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology
Cambridge, United Kingdom
We are looking for a postdoctoral scientist to join the group of Sjors Scheres to work on cryo-EM structure determination of amyloid filaments. Depending on the background of the candidate, the project would explore either laboratory-based model systems (with purified recombinant proteins or cells) for the formation of amyloid filaments with the same structures as those observed in human brain; or the ultra-structural organisation of amyloid filaments in brain tissue using correlative light and electron microscopy and cryo-electron tomography.
You will be part of our bubbly, multi-disciplinary team that operates in close collaboration with the group of Michel Goedert, you will become an expert in experimental cryo-EM structure determination, and you will benefit from further interactions with the wider scientific community at the MRC-LMB. You are highly motivated to work on amyloids and have a PhD in a relevant subject. A strong background in protein biochemistry/biophysics, previous experience with amyloids, or expertise in cryo-EM/ET will be an advantage.
This is a three-year training and development position suitable for you if you have recently completed your doctoral studies, or you are looking to move into a new research discipline and/or need to further develop your research skills. Working with our world class scientists you will be working in an Institute renowned for its excellent scientific facilities and high-quality research.
