Postdoctoral Neuroscientist

We are seeking to appoint a Postdoctoral Neuroscientist to work as part of an exciting research programme that is focused on identifying the neural mechanisms underpinning the execution of skilled movements. The post holder will develop, execute, analyse and report on a combination of state-of-the-art electrophysiological and behavioural investigations in rodents. They will utilise existing data sets to map the associations between coordinated activity at the level of 100s of single neurons to that of local field potentials in cortico-basal ganglia thalamic circuits. These analyses will be used to develop and perform novel closed-loop stimulation experiments to manipulate these activities with the goal of enhancing motor control.

The post holder will be part of the Sharott Group based at the MRC Centre of Excellence in Restorative Neural Dynamics (CoRE RND) and the Brain Network Dynamics Unit (BNDU), a division of NDCN. The Group has a strong track record in of executing translational studies of pathophysiology and brain stimulation. The Group uses multidisciplinary approaches to elucidate the function and dysfunction of target brain circuits, employing advanced techniques to monitor and manipulate neurons. The proposed research will take full advantage of the intellectual environment, capital equipment, technical expertise and excellent infrastructure already in place. There will be ample opportunities for the post holder to develop skills on the job and to work in partnership with researchers in other CoRE/Unit Groups.

• Salary (£): £39,424 - £47,779 per annum. A less experienced candidate may be appointed at Research Grade 6 (£35,681 to £41,636) per annum, with a commensurate adjustment in either the essential criteria, responsibilities or duties.
