Full Job Description

As Portfolio Manager, you will play a pivotal role in shaping how Notting Hill Genesis delivers change across the organisation. This Portfolio Manager position sits at the heart of our Strategic Planning & Transformation directorate, giving you strategic oversight of our entire transformation and change portfolio determining what enters it, in what order, and what leaves it. As Portfolio Manager, you will act as the central orchestrator connecting strategy to execution, driving pace, quality, and value across all change activity for the benefit of our residents and communities. If you're an experienced portfolio or programme professional looking to make a genuine impact within a leading London housing association, this Portfolio Manager role could be your next step. How you'll do it

  • Build and maintain a comprehensive portfolio plan for how the organisation will deliver its corporate strategy and become a truly customer-centric organisation, covering scope, status, risks, issues, interdependencies, benefits, and resource requirements
  • Engage senior leadership to work collaboratively on prioritisation, resourcing, and change capacity - setting effective plans and building shared ownership across all areas
  • Own the front door for new change, testing incoming demand against corporate priority, capability impact, and available capacity, and supporting directorates to bring project briefs up to standard
  • Establish and oversee governance arrangements for strategic planning, programme, and project delivery, presenting clear recommendations on what enters, what stops, and what may need delaying
  • Conduct portfolio-level risk assessments and work with the Risk team to implement mitigation strategies across transformation and planning portfolios
  • Provide the visibility, insight, and challenge senior leaders need to make confident investment and sequencing decisions, informed by external best practice and sector trends

We believe great service starts with great people, and we are committed to recruiting and developing passionate, enthusiastic, and talented individuals who can add value to our thriving organisation.
  • Pending confirmation of legislative changes, this role may require a qualification to demonstrate competence. If not already qualified, there may be an expectation to study towards a professional qualification. Essential:
  • Educated to degree level, with significant experience (5+ years) and a proven track record of managing a successful complex transformation and/or strategic change portfolio in an organisation of comparable size and complexity, including at least five years in portfolio or programme roles
  • A strong track record of managing portfolio interdependencies, risks, issues, and benefits across multiple workstreams, with strong leadership and interpersonal skills capable of inspiring and influencing senior stakeholders
  • Desirable:
  • Experience supporting strategic planning or operating model development in a complex, regulated environment; housing or wider public sector experience is welcome
  • A strong understanding of project, programme, and portfolio management methodologies, with excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting to executive teams and boards

Notting Hill Genesis is a not-for-profit organisation providing affordable homes for Londoners and it is now one of the largest housing associations in London. We are both a landlord and a developer, with more than 65,000 existing homes and and we employ around 1,800 employees.

Excellent annual leave allowance and flexible working opportunities (qualifying period may apply)
  • Generous pension scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, and adoption pay in addition to statutory entitlements (qualifying period may apply)
  • Employee assistance - free confidential advice and counselling services provided by independent specialist organisations.
  • Health cash plan
  • Staff discounts - we give our staff access to discounts at hundreds of major retailers, gyms, restaurants, entertainment, days out, insurance, and much more.
  • Interest free loans - season ticket loan, tenancy deposit loan, and training loan
