Policy Officer (Internal Secondment up to 6 Months) Grade 6-7 £32,155.20 - £41,121.00 per annum 37 hours per week Policy Team, Strategy and Innovation Service Are you curious about how councils make decisions? Do you enjoy turning insight into action, helping solve complex challenges, and influencing positive change for communities? We're looking for an enthusiastic and motivated colleague to join the Policy Team on an internal secondment for up to six months. This is a unique opportunity to gain experience working across the organisation, supporting strategic priorities and helping shape how we deliver services for our residents and communities. This is an exciting time to join the team. You'll contribute to some of the council's most important priorities, including preparations for Local Government Reorganisation, helping us better understand our communities, strengthen partnerships and plan for the future. What you'll be doing As a Policy Officer, you'll work across a diverse portfolio, including:

  • Data and insight analysis - Using evidence, insight and engagement to inform decisions and drive improvement
  • Partnership and stakeholder working
  • Performance management and reporting
  • Complaints handling and organisational learning
  • Supporting services to better understand resident needs, experiences and outcomes

    We're looking for someone who is:
  • Curious about communities, services and how organisations make decisions
  • Able to see the bigger picture while understanding the detail and nuance behind the data
  • A confident relationship builder who works well with a wide range of people
  • Proactive, self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of their work
  • Adaptable and able to balance competing priorities using sound judgement

    Work with colleagues across the council, from frontline services to senior managers and elected members
  • Develop a broader understanding of how the council operates and delivers its priorities
  • Gain experience in strategic policy, insight, performance and partnership work
  • Contribute to high-profile projects that support the future of the organisation and our communities
