Full Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Point of Care Testing (POCT) Lead to lead, manage, and develop POCT services across the Trust. This is a senior role within Pathology Services, providing professional and operational leadership for all aspects of POCT, ensuring compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and governance requirements while supporting safe, highquality patient care. The post holder will work closely with clinical teams, pathology colleagues, quality teams, and external suppliers to ensure effective implementation, oversight, and continuous improvement of POCT services., The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Lead is a specialist healthcare scientist role responsible for the day to day delivery, quality and governance of the POCT service across the Trust. The post holder is HCPC registered and educated to master's level, or holds an equivalent level of specialist knowledge, with extensive post registration experience and an in-depth understanding of UKAS and ISO requirements and quality management systems. Working within defined occupational policies, the post holder is the recognised day to day lead for the service, analysing complex quality and performance data, advising clinical and non-clinical staff across the Trust, and leading the development of guidelines, procedures and service improvements for POCT.

  • Provide strategic, operational, and professional leadership for Point of Care Testing across the Trust
  • Ensure POCT services comply with national standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation (e.g. UKAS ISO 22870/15189)
  • Develop, implement, and monitor POCT policies, procedures, and standard operating procedures
  • Act as the Trust expert and lead advisor on POCT, providing specialist guidance to clinical and managerial staff
  • Lead and support POCT training, competency assessment, and ongoing education for clinical users
  • Manage POCT quality assurance, audit, incident investigation, and corrective actions
  • Oversee evaluation, procurement, validation, and implementation of new POCT equipment and assays
