The Army

Work on building projects around the world. As a full-time soldier, entry-level Plasterer in the British Army, you'll:

• Add finishing touches to buildings including headquarters, hospitals, and military bases


• Master trades including plaster boarding, painting, and tiling


• Become an expert in skills like glazing and scaffolding


• Carry out work on a variety of military and civilian projects


• Study for qualifications including an NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Building and Structural Finishing (Military Engineering)

Qualifications

• Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months


• Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language, and one other subject


• Be able to pass a basic fitness test

Training Steps

• Step 1: Initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier, which will be basic military training if you're a Junior Soldier, and adult basic training if you're a Regular Soldier.


• Step 2: 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where you'll learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building.


• Step 3: 24 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about dry lining, painting, wall and floor tiling, planning, and site safety.

Work Schedule

Normally, you'll work 8:30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday, unless you're away on operations or training exercises.
