Overview


The Army is hiring an entry-level Plasterer to join the United Kingdom’s British Army as a full-time soldier. You will work on building projects around the world and gain earnings and training from the start of your career.


Salary: £27,282 a year (after training).




What you will do



  • Add finishing touches to buildings including headquarters, hospitals and military bases

  • Master trades including plaster boarding, painting and tiling

  • Become an expert in skills like glazing and scaffolding

  • Carry out work on a variety of military and civilian projects




Training and qualifications



  • Study for qualifications including an NVQ Level 2 and Level 3 in Building and Structural Finishing (Military Engineering)

  • To qualify, you must be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months

  • Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject

  • Be able to pass a basic fitness test

Training timeline



  1. Step 1: Initial military training to become a soldier (basic military training for Junior Soldiers or adult basic training for Regular Soldiers)

  2. Step 2: 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where you’ll learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building

  3. Step 3: 24 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about dry lining, painting, wall and floor tiling, planning and site safety
