Job Description
The Army United Kingdom offers a position for an entry-level Plasterer. As a full-time soldier, you will:
- Add finishing touches to buildings including headquarters, hospitals and military bases
- Master trades including plaster boarding, painting and tiling
- Become an expert in skills like glazing and scaffolding
- Carry out work on a variety of military and civilian projects
- Study for qualifications including an NVQ Level 2 and 3 in Building and Structural Finishing (Military Engineering)
To qualify, you must:
- Be between 16 years 6 months and 35 years 6 months
- Have a GCSE Grade A-C/9-5 or Scottish National 5 in Maths, English Language and one other subject
- Be able to pass a basic fitness test
Salary and Benefits
From the start of your training, you’ll earn £27,282 a year which will go up as you progress in your career.
From your first day of training, you’ll be gaining transferrable skills that could set you up for life. You don’t need to know how to do the job before you get here, because we’ll give you all the training you need.
Training Timeline
- Step 1: Initial military training teaching you how to be a soldier (basic military training if you’re a Junior Soldier and adult basic training if you’re a Regular Soldier)
- Step 2: 12 weeks at the Royal School of Military Engineering where you’ll learn military engineering skills including demolition and bridge building
- Step 3: 24 weeks of technical training at the Royal School of Engineering learning about dry lining, painting, wall and floor tiling, planning and site safety
