Full Job Description
We are looking for an experienced and motivated Senior Planning Enforcement Officer to join our Development Management Enforcement team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in protecting the character and quality of the borough by investigating and resolving breaches of planning control, unauthorised development, works to protected trees, listed buildings and other planning-related matters. As a senior member of the team, you will manage a varied and complex caseload, lead investigations, prepare enforcement action and represent the Council at appeals, inquiries and court proceedings. You will also provide guidance and support to junior officers while working closely with colleagues across planning, legal and other council services.
You will have experience in planning enforcement or a related planning environment and be confident managing challenging cases while maintaining a professional, customer-focused approach. Essential Requirements
- Experience investigating breaches of planning control and related unauthorised works.
- Knowledge and understanding of planning legislation and enforcement procedures.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to prepare clear reports, correspondence and evidence statements.
- Good organisational and time management skills.
- Ability to read and interpret plans and maps.
- Strong IT skills and the ability to use a range of systems and databases.
- Ability to undertake site visits across the borough.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths.
- Full driving licence and access to a vehicle for business use. Desirable Requirements
- Degree or diploma in Town and Country Planning, Geography, Urban Design or a related discipline.
- Eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
- Experience dealing with unauthorised Gypsy and Traveller sites and encampments.
- Experience conducting PACE interviews, interviews under caution and preparing prosecution statements. Why Join Us?
