Full Job Description

Rother District Council is an ambitious Council at the heart of 1066 Country in East Sussex. Based in Bexhill-on-Sea the district also covers the historic towns of Battle and Rye as well as a large, attractive rural area, predominantly falling within the High Weald National Landscape. Rother is a vibrant and inclusive district, and we are looking for forward thinking individuals to join our talented and enthusiastic planning team. The post holder will join a friendly, supportive and hard-working enforcement team at an exciting time and will have an important role to play in helping protect Rother. They will be able to become involved in a range of enforcement cases in both urban and rural locations, with lots of opportunities to travel around the beautiful district and meet with our diverse population. A flexible approach is taken to office and home working to enable staff to balance work and personal life commitments. This is a newly created post, to add to our current supportive and dedicated enforcement team, which demonstrates the importance Rother District Council puts on planning enforcement matters. You will be supporting our customers and helping them to understand the role effective enforcement makes in shaping an area. As a valuable member of our planning team, you will join a progressive council that always puts their customers first. We have set out to make our workplaces happy and have safe environments where staff feel content and valued. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and act upon alleged breaches of planning control from members of the public, Councillors and Council Officers.
  • To investigate each complaint in accordance with the Enforcement Plan and performance indicators.
  • To advise on what matters are to be investigated in accordance with the Council's approved scheme of delegation.
  • To carry out site visits and accurately record findings.
  • Where appropriate, interview alleged perpetrators to establish whether a breach of planning control has occurred.
  • Prepare delegated reports and appeal statements.

    Educated to 'A'/NVQ level standard or equivalent in a related field.
  • Experience of working with internal and external customers.
  • Experience of working in an enforcement type of environment (but not necessarily planning).
  • Teamwork
  • Customer care and dealing with difficult situations.
  • Time management.
  • Problem solving and negotiation skills.

    Salary: £27,944 - £30,399 per annum + £2,907 essential car user allowance. Starting salary dependent on qualifications and experience., a competitive salary and annual leave entitlement plus statutory holidays
