Placenta Accreta Spectrum Specialist Midwife - pending AFC evaluation'

This role supports the multidisciplinary PAS pathway and provides specialist midwifery input across key clinical areas.

The post-holder will assist with the weekly FMU scan list, providing counselling to women undergoing PAS-related imaging. A foundational understanding of ultrasound findings will support effective communication and patient preparation.

They will contribute to the PAS complex surgery list, offering continuity and specialist midwifery presence.

The role includes supporting the antenatal clinic where PAS patients are routinely reviewed, ensuring coordinated care, timely follow-up, and clear communication across the MDT.

Dedicated admin time will involve triaging referrals, contacting patients, coordinating and sharing relevant reports, maintaining data collection, auditing outcomes, reviewing unnecessary referrals, and monitoring late referrals to support pathway improvement.

Main duties of the job

Clinical Practice

Assess, plan, implement and evaluate midwifery care for women on the PAS pathway, ensuring privacy, dignity and personalised support throughout their antenatal and postnatal journey.

Provide specialist clinical expertise and guidance to midwifery and medical colleagues involved in the care of women with suspected or confirmed PAS, supporting safe, coordinated decision-making.

Prioritise and develop individualised care pathways based on comprehensive risk assessment, ensuring that plans reflect each woman's clinical needs, wellbeing and preferences.

Analyse and evaluate the effectiveness of PAS care pathways, identifying areas for improvement and providing professional advice to enhance safety, quality and consistency.

Maintain accurate, timely and professional documentation in line with Trust policies, national standards and regulatory requirements.

Apply counselling skills when delivering difficult news, supporting bereavement, or discussing outcomes related to antenatal screening and PAS-associated risks.

Work collaboratively with specialist teams and other relevant MDT members to ensure seamless care.

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of PAS guidelines, quality standards and best practice, ensuring care delivery remains evidence-based and aligned with national recommendations.

Monitor and evaluate the quality of PAS care, identifying variances, addressing concerns, and taking proactive steps to improve pathway performance and patient experience.
