Full Job Description

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the provision of high quality multi-professional placements & education. Working primarily for learners within our family care division they will also be required to work across the organisation where interprofessional learning opportunities can be provided. This is a split role with the post holder working with both our midwifery, medical & nursing & AHP students & learners The post holder will be an NMC registered midwife., The post holder will be required to:

  • Identify and develop new placement opportunities for medical & non-medical students & learners within the Trust by networking with clinical areas to explore all possible learning opportunities within the division.
  • Support the DUE & PEF teams in the allocation of placements and clinical activity.
  • Participate in the design, implementation, and evaluation of current or new programmes of education and training.
  • Engage with the wider clinical workforce, working collaboratively across disciplines and professions through work-based learning,
  • clinical support, education and training and clinical supervision.
  • Assess the quality of placement learning environments; ensuring all service areas/ placement providers have up to ILOs and have a
  • clear understand of the requirements of learners whilst on placement.
  • Support the midwifery education team to deliver training to both multi-professional learners but also to registered staff with the division.
  • Car owner & driver, To offer immediate hands-on practical support & guidance to learners & mentors.
  • To work alongside learners to ensure that they are given every opportunity to develop their competence.
  • Visit students within their placement supporting them with their education and assessments as well as ensuring no learning opportunity
  • is missed.
  • To promote effective communication between link lecturers, module leaders & the placement areas
  • Supporting interprofessional learning activity across the trust and local service providers
  • Support the development & delivery of targeted study days to enhance the training of pre-registration students, other learners & registered staff within the organization
  • Develop bespoke teaching sessions that meet student learning needs & enhance placement learning experience
  • Placement Quality
  • Support placement education leads, Practice Educators, PEF & DUE teams to develop placement circuits that meet student learning
  • needs, mirror the patient journey or explore locality-based healthcare communities.
  • Promote the use of a hub and spoke model of placements within the division to increase the breadth of placement experience, improve
  • multi-professional learning, encourage the development of new spokes and simply by managing our spokes better we will also increase capacity.
  • Support the production of a central placement database that will improve communication to and from placement managers and
  • educators.
  • Support interprofessional learning activity across the trust and local service providers
  • Facilitate the development of clinical supervisors across relevant service areas; providing supervision and support structures, building
  • education in clinical practice capability, consistency and efficiency.
  • To support mentors & educators in situations where learners are not able to meet their competencies.
  • Share best practice relating to Quality Assurance and Interprofessional Learning across placement providers.
  • Allocations
  • Support the DUE, PEF & Placement Hub teams to map annual allocation timetables for medical students and for each HEI to enable
  • long term planning.
  • Work with partner HEI's to reduce placement overlap and duplication.
  • Maximize placement use across the Trust and reduce last minute placement cancellations or emergency placement requests.
  • Capacity
  • Working with placement managers to expand placement capacity & increase the number of educators available
  • Explore how new placement models such as CLiP, E-roster or Hub & Spoke models of student placements could be utilised to expand

  • Support the development of E-roster to track and manage learner placements
  • Support the introduction of capacity as a daily number of learners rather than a weekly number of students.
  • Support the development of simulated or remote learning opportunities
  • Communication
  • Ensure communication channels are used appropriately to facilitate the flow of information between internal and external partners.
  • Share best practice relating to Quality Assurance and Interprofessional Learning across placement providers.
  • Produce regular progress reports to inform Education Quality monitoring.
  • Ensure that confidentiality is maintained at all times in conjunction with organisational IG policies.
  • Have an understanding of emotional intelligence and human factors and its impact within the health care setting: patients, clinicians,
  • service providers and the wider team.

    Essential criteria
  • NMC registered Midwife
  • Completion of NMC recognized practice assessor training
  • Desirable criteria
  • Degree level qualification
  • Completion of NMC recognized practice supervisor training
  • Completion of PROMPT train the trainer program, Experience of teaching, supervising, and assessing healthcare students in the practice setting
  • Ability to work without supervision and use own initiative
  • Ability to teach and facilitate in a variety of settings with different groups of staff
  • Knowledge of different methods/ styles for teaching and learning
  • Experience of having worked across professional and organizational boundaries
  • Desirable criteria
  • Experience of teaching & supervising medical students in the practice setting
  • Staff management/staff supervision
  • Experience of developing and implementing new systems and procedures
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with people from a wide range of personal and professional backgrounds
  • Understanding of quality improvement methodology and research delivery, Car owner & driver, You must have appropriate UK professional registration.

  • Please note that the salary advertised is for full time hours. If this post is less than 37.5 hours per week, the salary will be pro-rata. For posts on Agenda for Change pay-scales, new entrants to the NHS will normally commence on the first pay point of the relevant band.
