Full Job Description

An exciting opportunity to join the newly formed Thoracic Rehabilitation service at RBH/ HH. This is a permanent position in a newly developed post

The role will include providing virtual and face to face assessments of patients as well as running weekly exercise classes to prepare patients for upcoming surgery at both RBH and HH hospitals., The role will involve:

- Having responsibility for exercise prescription and supervision for outpatients awaiting thoracic surgery, both face-to-face and in virtual consultations.

- Prescribing and teaching a range of exercise modalities, including strength, cardiovascular training, flexibility and stretching.

- Monitoring and reviewing outpatient progress with individualised exercise programmes.

- Lead in the provision of in/outpatient exercise / nutrition classes, with support from senior staff, including class administration, provision of exercise and evaluation of classes.

- Support the wider therapy MDT e.g. OT and respiratory dietitian in completing assessments and onward referrals.

- Carrying out clinical assessments independently such as lung spirometry, exercise testing and oxygen saturation/heart rate recordings, body composition, and interpreting these for safely exercising patients.

- Management of equipment provision and education for thoracic surgery patients, with support from senior staff.

- Participating in the physiotherapy assistant weekend and public holiday service as rostered (once competencies are obtained in airway clearance and long-term rehabilitation).
