Full Job Description
We are recruiting for one permanent and one fixed term (ending Oct 2027) position. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Physiotherapist: Children's (rotational). This post participates in a cross site rotational scheme which includes PICU and the acute wards, Neonates, Child development service and MSK. The post holder will be providing a high standard of physiotherapy to patients, to perform advanced physiotherapeutic assessment of patients with diverse presentations and complex physical and psychological conditions and to develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme. The post holder is required to work at weekends within the PICU and acute wards rotation as part of their contracted hours of work, (specific rota details are held locally within departments). The post holder is required to participate in the overnight on call rota and will do so once they have completed the relevant induction and achieved the required competencies, (specific rota details are held locally within departments).Main duties of the job
- To provide a high standard physiotherapy service to patients in all service areas
- To acquire and demonstrate knowledge of relevant pathologies, conditions, normal values relating to the specialist area of physiotherapy.
- To be responsible for own caseload and be responsible within a defined area of the service and to undertake all aspects of clinical duties as an autonomous practitioner.
- To supervise and contribute to the training and development of therapy support workers, band 5 physiotherapists and students.
- To undertake service development projects to further own and team's clinical practice within each area.
- To make recommendations for service development, with active involvement in the implementation of changes to practice or service protocols.
- To participate in one of the out of hours weekend working and overnight respiratory on-call rota (specific rota details are held locally within departments).dependant on speciality area
- Paediatrics only: The job holder will help to provide a 7 day 24 hour paediatric inpatient service when completing the acute inpatient rotation (specific rota details are held locally within departments), The full job description provides an overview of the key tasks and responsibilities of the role and the person specification outlines the qualifications, skills, experience and knowledge required.
Degree accredited by Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) - Current HCPC registration as a speech & language therapist
- Professional portfolio demonstrating relevant experience and achievements, Experience of working at post-graduate level with adults with acquired communication and swallowing disorders, arising from neurological aetiologies.
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Experience of delivering training programmes to multidisciplinary colleagues.
- Experience of participation in clinical governance activities, Experience of working in a bedded neuro-rehabilitation unit
- Experience of working in acute stroke
- Experience of supporting therapy support workers (assistants) and/or students on placement, Specialist level of clinical skills and knowledge relevant to the management of adults with swallowing and communication disorders requiring acute and subacute neuro-rehabilitation setting; underpinned by current models of best practice.
- Competent Level C dysphagia practitioner ('RCSLT dysphagia training and competency framework') ie able to manage a dysphagia caseload independently - or equivalent (eg operating at Proficient Level of SLT EDS Competency Framework 2025)
