Full Job Description

To support the Head of Department in the leadership and teaching of Physics at Key Stage 4 GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined (Physics) and Key Stage 5 A Level Physics to ensure high standards of teaching and learning and high standards of student attainment., Responsible to the Head of Department - Science

1. To be responsible for the development, evaluation and modification of Key Stage 4 GCSE Physics, GCSE Combined Science (Physics) and Key Stage 5 A Level Physics Schemes of Work.

2. To provide leadership, guidance, and professional development for all teachers delivering Key Stage 5 A Level Physics, Key Stage 4 GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics), including non-specialists teaching Key Stage 3 physics. Offer regular performance feedback to colleagues and ensure that high expectations are consistently maintained across the department.

3. To monitor student performance at Key Stage 5 A Level Physics, providing analysis, recommendations ad strategies for raising attainment for the Head of Department and complete Key Stage 5 A Level Physics RAMs.

4. Develop and implement evidence-based, impactful strategies across all key stages to support high standards of student attainment and progress in public examinations. Share research-informed best practices within the Science department, with a particular focus on Physics, and collaborate effectively with other Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 post holders.

5. Ensure the effective operation of assessment, recording, and reporting systems for Key Stage 5 A Level Physics. This includes creating and administering Year 12 and 13 Pre-Public Examination papers and mark schemes, end-of-topic tests, and in class assessments.

6. To create Pre-Public Examination papers and mark schemes for GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics), end-of-topic tests and in class assessments.

7. To develop teaching and learning calendars for Key Stage 5 A Level Physics, GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics).

8. To create GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics) Pupil Progress trackers.

9. To monitor the regular setting, quality, and marking of homework and independent work for Key Stage 5 A Level Physics to sustain student progress and deepen learning. Conduct learning walks, lesson observations, and contribute to book looks.

10. To develop and enhance Science Tutor activities for Year 10 and Year 11 in both GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics).

11. To actively lead intervention strategies for underperforming students at Key Stage 5 A level Physics, including conducting and preparing pre-examination warm-up and revision sessions.

12. To collaborate with the Key Stage 4 Science Post Holder to contribute to intervention initiatives for GCSE Physics and GCSE Combined Science (Physics).

13. To ensure the department is stocked with appropriate texts and resources to deliver the Physics curriculum at Key Stage 4 GCSE Physics, GCSE Combined (Physics) and Key Stage 5 A level Physics.

14. To provide support and mentoring to ITT students and ECTs.

15. To enter students in different year groups for the Physics Olympiad and to arrange additional extra-curricular activities to enrich the education of students in the school.

16. To carry out any other associated tasks that may reasonably be required by the Head of Department.

17. To follow all safeguarding procedures and complete training as required.
