Full Job Description

Riversdale Surgery is looking to recruit a friendly, reliable, and professional Phlebotomist to join our busy practice team. This is an important patient-facing role, providing a safe and efficient blood-taking service to support clinicians in the diagnosis, monitoring, and treatment of patients.

The successful candidate will be responsible for carrying out venepuncture clinics, preparing and handling specimens correctly, maintaining accurate records, and ensuring a high standard of patient care at all times. They will work closely with the nursing, administrative, and clinical teams to help ensure the smooth running of daily services., The successful candidate will provide a safe, efficient, and patient-focused phlebotomy service within the practice. Their main duties will include taking blood samples from patients, accurately labelling and preparing specimens for collection, maintaining clear records on the clinical system, and ensuring all infection prevention and control procedures are followed.

They will work closely with the nursing, administrative, and clinical teams to support patient care and the smooth running of clinics. The post holder will report to the Nurse Manager, who will provide day-to-day support and supervision.

Week to week, the role will involve running phlebotomy clinics, reassuring and assisting patients, monitoring stock levels of equipment, escalating any concerns appropriately, and helping maintain a high standard of service within the practice.

We are looking for someone with excellent communication skills, a calm and caring manner, and the ability to work efficiently in a busy healthcare environment.

Full training and ongoing support will be provided where required, making this an excellent opportunity for either an experienced phlebotomist or someone with relevant healthcare experience looking to develop further within primary care.

We are a large forward-thinking long established Practice situated in expanded premises in Bridgend town centre. Close to the coast and with very easy access to the M4 corridor.

Our Practice population is 19,026 and we have a mixed patient demographic.

We are very proud of our friendly, hardworking team, which includes 9 GP Partners, 2 Salaried GPs, a team of Practice Pharmacists managed by our Senior Pharmacist (Partner) and a Practice Nurse team led by our Nurse Manager (Partner), including Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Assistants and Phlebotomists. Our Clinical teams receive excellent support from our ancillary staff.

We are a well-regarded training Practice and have several GP Registrars. We also provide undergraduate teaching to years 1 and 2 medical students and support student nurses and pharmacists. We are members of the Bridgend East Network Cluster and Pen y Bont Health Federation, the first federated GP Cluster in Wales. We use the EMIS computer system. We are also proud to be a Park Run Practice.
