Full Job Description

We are looking for a reliable and compassionate Male Personal Assistant (genuine occupational requirement) to support a 40 year old gentleman living with paranoid schizophrenia for 4 hours per week.

This role involves supporting access to the community, promoting wellbeing and encouraging engagement in activities such as fitness, sports, boxing, gardening, shopping and music/TV.

1. Principal duties and responsibilities:
Morning support to establish a positive routine.
Collecting and dropping off the employer
Supporting access to gym, exercise and community activities
Providing encouragement, reassurance and emotional support
Promoting independence, dignity and choice., 4 hours per week delivered as 2 x 2 hour morning sessions
Community based support including collection and drop off.

About the Employer

An adult male living with paranoid schizophrenia who benefits from structured, consistent and supportive engagement to maintain wellbeing and independence.

Strengths & Interests:

Enjoys gardening, boxing, martial arts, gym/fitness, sports.
Interested in music & TV
Motivated by activity-based engagement.

Support Needs:

Encouragement to begin and maintain daily routines.
Support to safely access the community.
Emotional reassurance when experiencing anxiety or distress.
Structured, calm support to prevent isolation.

Planned Support Activities:

Gym sessions, boxing or exercise
Outdoor activities and gardening
Shopping and errands
General wellbeing and routine building.

Outcomes:

Improved mental wellbeing and routine.

3. Risk & Safeguarding Considerations

Risk Awareness:

The individual has a diagnoses of paranoid schizophrenia which may occasionally impact perception, anxiety levels and trust.
Risks may include withdrawal, distress or reluctance to engage.

Support Strategies:

Use a calm, reassuring, non-confrontational approach
Build consistency and trust over time.
Avoid overwhelming situations or environments.
Adapt plans based on presentation on the day.

Safety:

Ensure safe transport when collecting and dropping off employer.
Maintain professional boundaries at all times.
Report concerns appropriately in line with safeguarding guidance.

Safeguarding:

Respect dignity, privacy and rights at all times.
Be alert to any changes in mental or physical wellbeing.
Follow local safeguarding procedures if concerns arise.

4. Employment & Direct Payments Information.

The PA will be employed through the Local Authority Direct Payments scheme.
Subject to:-

Adult Enhanced DBS check
References

Paid 4 hours per week
Flexible approach required depending on needs.
