Full Job Description
We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Personal Assistant to support a bright, creative, and intelligent 15-year-old girl living in Penzance.
She has ADHD and is currently on the neurodevelopmental pathway, with some traits associated with Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA).
Your role will involve providing emotional support and helping her develop confidence, social skills, and personal strategies for managing anxiety. Her limited time outside the home is due to her needs, not her behaviour. A gentle, positive, patient one-to-one approach is essential as she continues to recover from neurodiverse burnout and to manage overwhelming anxiety.
The ideal candidate will help establish safe boundaries and guide her in creating personal strategies for maintaining them. A gentle, positive one-on-one approach is essential to support her ongoing recovery from neurodiverse burnout and manage overwhelming anxiety.
We are seeking someone lively, cheerful, and able to build a supportive, trusting relationship. It will be helpful if you share her interests-these may include football, gaming, swimming, dancing, experimenting with makeup, watching TV, and trips to the cinema.
Experience working with young people on the autism spectrum is highly advantageous. While a full driving licence is desirable, it is not essential.
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All offers of employment will be subject to the successful candidate undertaking an enhanced DBS check, the administration process will be undertaken by Cornwall Council.
Rate of Pay: £13.45 per hour. A travel allowance of 45p per mile is provided for any journeys made while transporting her in your vehicle.
Hours: 6 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to suit the candidate's availability. Preference is for support during Wednesday or Friday afternoons or evenings, as well as weekends and school holidays.
