Full Job Description
We are looking for a compassionate, patient, and reliable Personal Assistant to support our 7-year-old son, to access and enjoy activities in the community, develop confidence and independence, and have positive social experiences. Child is autistic (PDA profile), has ADHD, Hypermobility, Tourette syndrome, asthma, and dust and pollen allergies. The role involves providing tailored support that meets Isaac's sensory, emotional, physical, and personal care needs, including assistance with toileting, medication administration, and community access. The successful candidate will build a trusting relationship with Isaac, use a flexible and low-demand approach, and support him to engage in activities he enjoys, such as gaming, outdoor exploration, and imaginative play, while promoting his wellbeing, dignity, and independence at all times. We are looking for someone who can see beyond Isaac's diagnoses and appreciate him for the funny, intelligent, creative, and unique young boy he is. The right person will help him access enjoyable experiences, feel safe and understood, and build confidence in the world around him. Roles and Responsibilities Support child to access social, leisure, and community activities.
- Build a trusting and positive relationship through play and shared interests.
- Encourage confidence, independence, and self-esteem.
- Support participation in activities while ensuring his safety and wellbeing.
- Use a flexible and understanding approach that respects childs PDA profile.
- Recognise and respond appropriately to sensory, emotional, and communication needs.
- Support him with developing social skills and positive community experiences.
- Be aware of his medical conditions and follow agreed plans relating to asthma, allergies, and other health needs.
- Adapt activities according to childs energy levels and physical abilities.
- Maintain communication with parents regarding activities and any concerns.
- Support child with personal care needs when required, in a respectful, age-appropriate, and dignified manner.
- Assist child with toileting while out in the community, including supporting the use of a portable urinal when required, as public toilet environments can be overwhelming and inaccessible to him.
- Provide support with changing clothing following toileting accidents when necessary.
- Support child with bathroom routines, including prompting and assisting with wiping, handwashing, and other hygiene tasks when he is unable to manage these independently.
- Recognise when toileting-related demands are becoming overwhelming for Isaac and adapt support using a patient, low-demand, and understanding approach.
- Promote childs dignity, privacy, wellbeing, and independence throughout all aspects of personal care.
- Administer prescribed medication in accordance with parental guidance, written instructions, and agreed procedures, ensuring medication is given safely, accurately, and at the appropriate time.
- Be aware of and follow agreed guidance regarding asthma, allergies, hypermobility, and other health needs. Child is a bright, engaging, and energetic young boy who is autistic (PDA profile) and has ADHD. He also has hypermobility,Tourettes Syndrome, asthma and dust and pollen allergies. He has a passion for gaming and particularly enjoys playing Minecraft and Wobbly Life. When he feels regulated and comfortable, he enjoys exploring outdoor spaces and experiencing nature. Due to his sensory processing differences, and hypermobility-related pain and fatigue, many environments can become overwhelming for Isaac. To support his wellbeing and enable him to access the community safely, he uses a specialist pram during outings. This provides a safe space for regulation and helps manage pain and discomfort associated with his hypermobile joints.
An understanding of neurodiversity and a flexible, low-demand approach are essential. Child responds best to adults who are patient, creative, calm, and able to adapt their approach to the situation.
