Full Job Description
We are looking for a friendly, reliable and adaptable Personal Assistant to support a severely sight-impaired man in his thirties to maintain his independence and access the things that are important to him. This is a varied role, and no two days need to be the same. The successful candidate will provide practical assistance with tasks that can be inaccessible due to visual impairment, while encouraging independence, choice and control. A good sense of humour, a friendly personality and the ability to build a positive rapport are just as important as practical skills. Main Duties:
- Describing visual information and reading letters, labels and other printed materials.
- Helping to organise paperwork and important documents.
- Supporting with household tasks, including cleaning, meal preparation and laundry.
- Assisting with shopping, both in person and online, including locating items in shops and reading product information.
- Providing sighted-guide assistance in unfamiliar locations.
- Supporting travel and access to new places using different forms of transport.
- Helping to make documents and information more accessible.
- Providing practical support with technology that requires visual access.
- Assisting with social media and online platforms to help maintain friendships and access communities.
- Supporting access to training, employment and other opportunities.
- Helping with basic garden maintenance.
None required, but to be fluent in English Skills & Experience: - Friendly, approachable and reliable.
- Comfortable using technology and has good computer knowledge.
- Able to communicate clearly and confidently.
- Happy to provide detailed and useful descriptions of visual information.
- Adaptable and willing to learn about the best ways to support someone with a visual impairment.
- Comfortable with cooking, cleaning and basic gardening tasks.
- Able to travel and ideally has access to transport.
- Dog friendly, as the client is a guide dog user.
- Social, easy-going and equipped with a good sense of humour! The ideal candidate would build a rapport with the client whose hobbies include films, sport, comedy and animals. The client is a man in his thirties who wants support to be independent and help with things that are inaccessible due to visual impairment.
