Main duties of the job, This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the development and delivery of high-quality midwifery services, focusing on the needs of women whose lives are impacted by poor mental health. Key responsibilities include:
  • Providing tailored midwifery care to women with mental health needs, ensuring safe, evidence-based practices.
  • Identifying deteriorations in mental health and liaising with appropriate partner agencies for timely intervention.
  • Delivering health education and social care advice to reduce health inequalities and promote well-being for women and families.
  • Collaborating with the multidisciplinary team and external agencies to ensure seamless and effective care.
  • Supporting safeguarding practices, making considered judgments to protect the welfare of unborn and newborn babies.
  • Assisting in staff training, development, and audit initiatives to continuously improve maternity services.

    Education and Qualifications
  • Essential
  • Registered Midwife
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent
  • Current professional portfolio demonstrating ongoing professional development and further education
  • Desirable
  • Leadership Knowledge or study
  • Experience Essential
  • Minimum of 3 years experience
  • Ability to demonstrate an expert working knowledge of safeguarding and midwifery in all areas of the maternity service
  • Evidence of relevant clinical update, including midwifery mandatory skills & drills and other regulatory mandatory training
  • Have worked in a multi-agency approach
  • Use of computerised information systems
  • Desirable
  • Involvement with clinical audit and research
  • Experience/education in specialist subject
  • Demonstrable achievements in developing staff, changing clinical practice and pathways of care, organisational change, quality improvement, leadership and teaching
  • Key Skills Essential
  • Able to carry out the full range of midwifery skills in accordance with job description
  • Effective organisational, time management and prioritisation skills
  • Able to practise in all clinical areas in accordance with NMC Rules and Standards
  • Well -developed interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and professional standard written, presentation and communication skills
  • Computer literate, including analysis of data
  • Demonstrate emotional resilience in working on cases with high levels of social distress
  • Able to support others and mentor in the learning environment
  • Ability to maintain and present data relating to this area of service
