Perinatal Governance & Safety Coordinator

Band 7 Secondment-37.5 hours - Participate in 24 hour bleep rota. The post holder will work within the multidisciplinary perinatal team to promote a culture of patient safety, quality improvement, and clinical excellence aligned to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF). The role combines responsibility for perinatal governance, risk management, incident investigation, implementation of the Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle (SBLCB), Maternal Care Bundle (MCB), and delivery of the NHS Resolution Maternity (Perinatal) Incentive Scheme (MIS). The post holder will support the coordination of investigations and learning from incidents, contribute to governance and assurance processes, and support perinatal safety improvement initiatives aligned with national standards. Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary colleagues, maternity and neonatal stakeholders, and external agencies, the post holder will provide leadership in improving safety, quality, and compliance across perinatal services. The post holder will maintain clinical credibility through regular clinical practice and participation in operational support requirements including the maternity bleep holder and on-call rotas where appropriate.Main duties of the job The post holder will: · Support the coordination of perinatal clinical governance and risk management processes across services. · Support implementation and adherence to the Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), ensuring effective management of patient safety incidents. · Promote a considered and proportionate approach to responding to incidents, facilitating appropriate learning responses and supporting the service to embed these improvements. · Contribute to the implementation, monitoring, and assurance of national maternity and neonatal safety programmes, including MIS and Saving Babies' Lives, Maternal Care Bundle, and wider regulatory requirements such as CQC standards. · Assist in the management of incident reporting processes, ensuring incidents are appropriately reviewed, investigated, escalated, and managed in line with Trust policy and PSIRF principles. · Support patient safety investigations, including information gathering, report preparation, action planning, and sharing of learning. · Liaise with external agencies (e.g. MNSI) and contribute to processes relating to external reviews, inspections, and regulatory activity. · Contribute to analysis of trends from incidents, complaints, audits, and safety data to inform service improvement. · Facilitate or contribute to shared learning, reflective practice, and multidisciplinary governance forums. Quality Improvement & Service Development, · Contribute to perinatal quality improvement initiatives aligned with national and local priorities, including safety and regulatory frameworks. · Participate in audit, service evaluation, and quality improvement activities to support improved outcomes and experience. · Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, LMNS/ICB partners, and regional networks to support safety and improvement programmes. · Support benchmarking, assurance, and regulatory readiness activities (including CQC inspections and reviews). · Contribute to service user engagement and co-production initiatives. Leadership and Professional Practice The post holder will: · Provide support and guidance to staff in relation to governance, patient safety, and risk management processes. · Support a positive safety culture and staff learning following incidents and investigations. · Contribute to change management and service improvement initiatives. · Develop effective multidisciplinary and interdepartmental relationships. · Represent the Directorate at meetings, including those relating to governance, safety, and regulatory assurance, as delegated. · Manage workload effectively and support delivery of key governance and safety priorities across the service. · Actively participate in the 24/7 maternity bleep holding roster, providing operational support and clinical leadership in accordance with service requirements · Maintain clinical credibility through regular clinical practice and continuing professional development. · Practise in accordance with the NMC Code and relevant professional standards. · Maintain accurate, contemporaneous, and legally compliant clinical and governance records., · Support delivery of education and training relating to governance, patient safety, incident investigation, and national programmes (e.g. MIS, SBLCB). · Contribute to multidisciplinary training and learning programmes (e.g. PROMPT). · Support staff development, reflective practice, and learning from governance activity. · Participate in audit, research, and evaluation linked to perinatal safety, quality, and regulatory standards. · Maintain awareness of national guidance, including developments in CQC expectations and perinatal safety program

• Significant post-registration clinical experience within maternity services
• Understanding of patient safety, risk management, and quality improvement within healthcare
• Knowledge of national perinatal safety initiatives and quality standards, including the Maternity Incentive Scheme and Saving Babies' Lives Care Bundle
• Ability to work independently and use initiative

• Experience of working with patient safety
• Experience of implementing or supporting clinical change or quality improvement initiatives
• Experience of multidisciplinary and multi-agency working
