Public Health Improvement Programme The Public Health Peer Review and External Support is a major new local authority public health improvement programme led by the Local Government Association (LGA) over the next three years. Funded by the Department for Health and Social Care, the programme will see the LGA work with councils in England, starting in June 2026, to support local public health teams to deliver better health outcomes for their communities. It will include delivery of a substantial programme of public health peer reviews. About the role For posts marked

Peer Review Manager (Public Health) The role will support the Programme Lead (Public Health) and Public Health Programme Board to develop and implement a national programme of public health improvement support. You will be working closely with councils, including Directors of Public Health, Public Health Teams and the wider sector to ensure improvement support is co-developed and delivered to the highest standard. To contribute to the implementation of the Public Health Improvement Programme through developing and delivering improvement support. To deliver peer reviews and peer support on time, within budget and in line with quality standards, to ensure that value is added for local authorities.

You will be an excellent co-ordinator of complex projects with an understand of the planning required to deliver a programme of peer reviews. Your organisation and communication skills will be of the highest standard bringing clarity to the planning of peer reviews for their timely delivery and evaluation. You will be experienced of working with council senior officers, elected members and key partners and confident to manage a team of peer reviewers, providing support and ensuring adherence to sector led improvement principles and agreed peer review methodology. We are specifically assessing candidates against the following criteria: 1. Ability to support and deliver public health peer reviews to ensure they are delivered on time, within budget and in line with quality standards. 2. Ability to manage remote and face to face peer briefing and training process, ensuring access to development opportunities identified for peers and undertake any preparation or follow up with peers linked to briefing or training events. 3. Ability to work in partnership with the LG Support Team and Peer Co-ordinator, LGA's Political Group Offices and Lead Member Peers, to support the placement of member peers and help develop peer matching, record keeping and updating, and identify training for new and current peers. 4. Ability to provide regular information to ensure that the peer database using CRM is continuously updated and improved. 5. Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with councils, Directors of Public Health, councillors, government officials, partner and stakeholder organisations in order to understand priorities and needs, share good practice and develop a culture of positive partnership working.
