Full Job Description

We're looking for an experienced Payroll Administrator to join our clients growing payroll team. You'll be responsible for delivering a first-class payroll bureau service, managing your own portfolio of client payrolls and ensuring everything runs smoothly, accurately and compliantly. This role would suit someone who enjoys autonomy, takes pride in their work and is confident handling payroll from start to finish. There's also scope for a higher salary for candidates who can demonstrate supervisory experience or that extra bit of "something" we're looking for. What you'll be doing

  • Managing a portfolio of small to medium-sized client payrolls end to end, with minimal supervision
  • Using STAR / IRIS Payroll Professional confidently, including imports and exports
  • Processing manual payroll calculations, including Director's National Insurance
  • Applying strong knowledge of PAYE, NIC and statutory payments such as SMP, SAP, SPP, SSP and redundancy pay
  • Managing auto-enrolment pension processing, including assessments and uploading data to pension provider portals
  • Sending BACS payments accurately and on time
  • Assisting with new client payroll set-ups
  • Carrying out payroll reconciliations and analysis independently
  • Keeping up to date with payroll legislation and ensuring full compliance
  • Liaising with HMRC and supporting with more technical payroll queries
  • Using initiative to resolve issues and support colleagues where needed
  • Building strong working relationships with clients and internal stakeholders

    Previous payroll experience, ideally within a bureau or professional services environment
  • Up-to-date knowledge of payroll legislation
  • Confident user of payroll software, particularly STAR
  • Good IT skills, including a solid working knowledge of Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Well organised, with the ability to prioritise workload
  • A team player who's happy to support others
  • Supervisory experience would be a bonus and reflected in the salary

    Salary of £32,000, rising to £38,000 for the right candidate with supervisory experience
