Full Job Description
We are seeking to employ a enthusiastic, highly motivated Patient Flow Coordinator to join our joint services within DPU and SDAU.
The Day Procedure Unit team at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital is one of the major elective surgical Units in East Anglia. Following the Nationally recognised British Association of Day Surgery Directory the Unit is continually reviewing and evaluating its services, providing pre and post operative nurse led care for wide range of surgical specialities, including Urology, Gynae, ENT, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Oral, General Surgery, Vascular and Pain Management.
The Same Day Admission Unit (SDAU) is a dedicated department which admits and prepares adult patients for elective surgery. Our patients attend the Same Day Admissions Unit for their admission, and after their surgery they are then transferred to an inpatient ward for their recovery and discharge. Our teams works closely with other departments in the Trust, including the Day Procedure Unit, Preoperative Assessment, Surgical Specialty Teams, Anaesthetics, Theatres and the wards.

The ward embraces the chance for staff development, and the individual will gain skills in proactively managing the ward patient bed booking system, gaining knowledge and experience at identifying capacity shortfalls and taking steps to ensure capacity is fully utilized.
We require the prospective applicants to be flexible and adaptable to our evolving service as we work towards increasing our elective surgery capacity. This includes establishing working relationships with the wider team and supporting the senior staff in ensuring our patients have the best care possible on the day of surgery.
The successful applicant will work collaboratively within the team both independently and with direct supervision from others. They will work closely with the requirements of Trust and Departmental policies and procedures to ensure that patient pathways are correctly managed accordingly. Data collection and processing is vital for service improvement; therefore, they will assist the managing team with regular audits.
Please be aware the working pattern will include working 8-hour shifts, Monday to Sunday, between 7:00 and 20:00: the shifts are allocated as a mix of either 7:00 - 15:00 or 12:00 - 20:00, excluding bank holidays., + Manage patient flow within the unit daily.
+ Proactively plan patient booking, identifying capacity shortfalls and taking steps to ensure capacity is fully utilised.
+ Develop links with inpatient Patient Flow team to proactively support the smooth running of theatres both in the Main suite and DPU.
+ To facilitate patient transfers, supporting a smooth and constant throughput of day-case patients within the Unit and Trust.
+ Managing patient pathways by communicating with patients, booking teams, inputting data on ORSOS and PAS, liaise with medical teams where appropriate.

Travelling to work
Staff parking is available onsite; however, this is limited during core working hours. We have more capacity in the evening and at weekends and can usually provide spaces during those hours.
We look to allocate these spaces fairly. Our Travel Office have a set of criteria that staff must meet in order to qualify. If you qualify for a space, you may be placed on a waiting list if we are at full capacity.
The NNUH is served by a number of public buses, and we offer generously discounted monthly passes with First Bus & Konect.
The Costessey Park and Ride runs regularly each day from 06:30 (from P&R) to 20:45 (from NNUH) and this service is free for NHS staff. Applications to the Travel Office are required for this service. We also have a discounted service from the airport P&R if you purchase a bundle. Please see Konect website for further details.
The NNUH host multiple bicycle racks and a salary sacrifice scheme. We also benefit from a Beryl station onsite.

The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) is a 1,200-bedded teaching hospital with state-of-the-art facilities for modern patient care: 1100 beds in the PFI and 100 in Cromer Community Hospital.

We are enhancing our urgent and emergency care specialist services for patients with significant injuries as a result of trauma and have an ambition to become a Major Trauma Centre. NNUH is currently the busiest Trauma Unit in the East of England caring for almost 850 trauma patients annually many with complex care needs.
