Full Job Description

Effective patient flow is fundamental to delivering safe, high-quality care and maintaining system resilience. The Enhanced Clinical Bed Management Service plays a pivotal role in overseeing hospital capacity, coordinating complex patient pathways, and supporting timely access to care across the organisation. The service has undergone significant and positive transformation, developing into a clinically led, highly collaborative, and well-established team. This is a rare opportunity to join an exciting and dynamic service working across both older adult and adult mental health pathways. The service has secured investment to support its continued development, including the expansion of clinical bed management and clinical discharge specialist roles. We are seeking an experienced and clinically credible professional to join the team. In this senior role, you will provide clinical and operational leadership for bed management, working closely with matrons, site managers, and senior clinicians to make timely, risk-based decisions that balance patient safety, quality of care, and operational performance. This is full time post, but we would consider applicants looking for part time., You will be joining the service that has undergone significant and positive transformation, developing into a clinically led, highly collaborative, and well-established team. You will work collaboratively with inpatient wards and partner organisations including the local authority. You will be expected to provide clinical expertise regarding admission criteria. To be a part of the multi-disciplinary team, influencing responsive and timely inpatient admissions where length of stay is proportionate to need. The post holder will be expected to utilise their clinical and risk assessment skills to ensure the best outcomes for patients as part of the admission process. Effective communication and sharing of information will be key to the role. You will use advanced clinical judgement, strong situational awareness, and excellent communication skills to manage escalation, resolve patient flow challenges, and support consistent, whole-hospital decision-making. This role is ideally suited to a confident and resilient leader who can influence across services, remain calm under pressure, and drive continuous improvement in patient flow and patient experience within a complex NHS mental health environment.
