Full Job Description
As aCourier Driver, you'll be responsible for the safe, timely, and reliable transport of pathology samples and essential medical items between hospitals, GP practices, and community diagnostic centres. Work will directly contribute to the speed and accuracy of diagnoses and treatments for thousands of patients every day. Courier Driver roles are based at one of the following three main depots, each responsible for a specific geographical area:
- Lincoln Depot - Covering Goole, Scunthorpe, Grantham.Lincoln,Boston,Nottingham, Sheffield, and Doncaster, as well as wider areas across North Lincolnshire, South Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire The Courier Driver role exists to ensure the critical and time-sensitive transportation of pathology samples and essential medical items between healthcare sites across the Path Links network. This function is fundamental to the delivery of high-quality diagnostic services, enabling laboratories to process samples quickly and accurately, which in turn supports timely clinical decisions and patient care. By maintaining a reliable and efficient transport service, Courier Drivers help uphold the integrity of the pathology process and contribute directly to the operational effectiveness of the wider NHS pathology service.Main duties of the job The post is a major link between the Trust and primary care. Staff will be expected to always behave in a professional and courteous manner. Attention to detail is required to ensure that delivery and collections are made in a timely and accurate manner. Deliver and collect pathology specimens, post, stores, supplies, stationery, and equipment obtaining signatures as necessary. The collection of Pathology specimens from surgeries, hospitals and clinics. The occasional transfer of bodies between Path Links Mortuaries, Ensuring the vehicle is safe and road worthy by carrying out a daily vehicle inspection of the fuel, water, oil, tyres and lights and always maintain vehicle cleanliness. Compliance with Safety procedures always; be able to recognize potential hazards to themselves and others and rectify or report these in a timely manner. Reporting of accidents/incidents to the correct person in a prompt and accurate manner Complete accurate administrative tasks (e.g. vehicle logs, proof of delivery forms) Maintain confidentiality in line with Trust policies Staff must comply with health and safety regulation and Trust and departmental H&S Policies. It is the duty of the post holder to ensure that they attend mandatory training sessions.
