Full Job Description

We are seeking an exceptional Pastoral Support Practitioner who believes, deeply and consistently, that strong pastoral care is central to unlocking a young person's potential. This is an opportunity to work in a setting where students are known as individuals, where support is purposeful, and where your contribution directly shapes both outcomes and wellbeing. Why this role matters Our students arrive with ambition, but for some, their success depends on the strength of the guidance and care they receive. They need a trusted adult who will listen, respond, and act, ensuring that every concern is addressed and every barrier to learning is reduced. You will not simply respond to issues as they arise; you will:

  • Act as a first point of contact for student concerns, providing reassurance, guidance, and direction
  • Deliver targeted 1:1 support, helping students build confidence, resilience, and independence
  • Work proactively with the Pastoral Behaviour Support team to maintain high expectations for behaviour and engagement
  • Support students in moments of difficulty, ensuring they remain connected to learning and the wider UTC community
  • Champion the progress, wellbeing, and achievement of vulnerable learners, including looked after and previously looked after children
  • What makes Berkeley Green UTC different Step into our UTC and you'll feel it instantly - a culture built on professionalism, respect, and genuine human connection.
  • Students are polite, motivated, and purposeful
  • Staff know every learner, because relationships matter here
  • Learning is cutting-edge, employer-informed, and future-focused
  • Facilities are state-of-the-art, designed with industry partners
  • Education is both academic and technical, equally valued
  • This is a place where you can truly immerse yourself in your subject, supported by colleagues who are experts in their fields and a community that believes in what education can be.

  • Builds strong, trusting relationships with students and acts with empathy and professionalism
  • Can confidently support behaviour for learning and respond effectively to incidents
  • Has excellent communication skills, working constructively with staff, families, and external agencies
  • Is highly organised and able to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities
  • Provides calm, solution-focused support during challenging situations
  • Demonstrates initiative and takes responsibility for following through on concerns
  • Works effectively as part of a team, contributing to a shared commitment to student success
  • Is committed to safeguarding, wellbeing, and the holistic development of every young person
  • Above all, we are looking for someone who sees beyond immediate challenges, understands the wider context of a young person's life, and is driven to ensure every student feels supported, safe, and able to thrive.

At Berkeley Green UTC, support extends beyond lessons. You will:
  • Contribute to a curriculum shaped by industry and opportunity
  • Work alongside employers and partners who enrich learning
  • Support students as they progress to top universities, apprenticeships, and careers
  • Play a full role in a community where collaboration and shared purpose matter
  • A place where you can thrive This is more than a job; it's a place where your work has meaning. You will join a community that:
  • Values integrity, respect, and professionalism
  • Invests in high-quality CPD and career development
  • Encourages innovation and celebrates excellence
  • Believes that great teaching changes lives
  • We offer:
  • A genuinely inclusive and specialist setting
  • Comprehensive induction and support
  • Opportunities for ongoing training and professional development
  • A warm and collaborative team culture
  • Meaningful work where you can see the impact you make every day
  • Our students are curious, resilient and full of potential. We are proud to create an environment where individuality is celebrated and every achievement matters.
  • Local Government Pension Scheme
  • Access to health and wellbeing support services
  • If you are ready to inspire, challenge, and make a lasting difference, we would be delighted to hear from you. Come and be part of something different. Come and be part of Berkeley Green UTC.
