Full Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Manager, the Receptionist/Administrator is the first point of contact for visitors and enquiries across the Akeley Wood campuses. This role is responsible for delivering a professional and welcoming front-of-house service while supporting key administrative functions, including pupil attendance and registration, parent communications, and general school administration. What You Will Be Doing

  • Deliver a professional, welcoming, and efficient front-of-house service to all visitors and stakeholders.
  • Manage reception operations, including handling telephone and email enquiries.
  • Oversee pupil registration and attendance processes, following up on unexplained absences with parents.
  • Provide first aid support and respond appropriately to pupil and staff welfare needs.
  • Maintain accurate pupil and parent records and support school communications.
  • Provide administrative support to teaching and support staff across the school.
  • Manage incoming post, stationery supplies, and reprographics services.
  • Support school events, open days, meetings, and training activities.
  • Ensure reception and communal administrative areas are presented to a high standard at all times.
  • Undertake additional duties as reasonably required by the Operations Manager and wider leadership team.

    Excellent communication and customer service skills, with a professional and friendly telephone manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with pupils, parents, staff, and visitors.
  • Proficient IT skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good written and spoken English.
  • Educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and support colleagues when required.
  • Calm, organised, and able to remain professional under pressure.
  • Tact, discretion, and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • High standards of personal presentation and professionalism.
  • Desirable
  • Experience working within a school or educational environment.
  • Experience using databases or management information systems.
  • First Aid qualification.
